After 30 years of serving as the Chancellor of the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church – the legal advisor to the Bishop and the Annual Conference – Warren Plowden, currently of counsel at Jones Cork, is passing the gavel.

Jones Cork Partner, Cater C. Thompson, who has served since 2015 as Associate Chancellor, officially began serving as Chancellor at the conclusion of the 2020 Annual Conference session. Plowden is now serving as Chancellor Emeritus.

“It’s been a lot of fun and a lot of work,” Mr. Plowden said of his time serving in this position. “Having served the South Georgia Conference and worked with eight bishops has been a blessing and a joy,” Mr. Plowden shared.

As the longest-serving Chancellor in the United Methodist Conference, in South Georgia, Mr. Plowden has advised bishops, countless district superintendents, and conference leaders.

Ms. Thompson is honored to serve as the current Chancellor. She is a member of Macon’s Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. She also serves as general counsel and ex-officio member of the Boards of Trustees of the Methodist Home of the South Georgia Conference, Inc. and the Foundation for the Methodist Home.
